7 C's of Diamond

Carat - Pretty things may come in small boxes, but what’s in those boxes better be big. That is, yes, size does matter. Instead of grams or kilos, diamonds are weighed in carats (not to be confused with gold’s Karat which signifies purity). This simply denotes a measuring scale where each 1 carat = 0.2 grams (0.50 carat = 0.1 gram and 5 carats = 1 gram). All else being equal, diamond price increases with diamond carat weight because larger diamondsare more rare and more desirable. But two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values (and prices) depending on three other factors of the diamond 4Cs: Clarity, Color, and Cut.

Cut - Cut play a mojor role in grading any loose diamond. Cut refers not to a diamond's shape (e.g. round, oval, pear, etc.) but to a diamond's proportions, symmetry and polish. This is why the Cut grade is so important; it allows the purchaser to identify those stones that were cut Fair to Poor in an effort to gain carat weight.Cut simply means what shape a rough diamond has been polished into, the cut is the most important determiner of a diamond’s brilliance and light dispersion. Therefore, the more delicate and precise a cut is, the more the diamond will sparkle and the more brilliant it will be.

Color - Color is one of the most important aspects of both value and appeal of any gemstone, and diamond is no different. The color, or in actuality the lack of color, is another factor to examine when selecting a diamond. The less color a diamond has, the more rare it becomes and the more valuable it is.

Clarity - Like people, all diamonds are unique. Almost all diamonds have small impurities or “inclusions,” but they are not always visible to the naked eye or untrained eye. The size and location of the inclusions play a significant role in determining the price of a diamond so it is important to understand clarity grades in order to make the most suitable choice. The size of the impurities and imperfections determine the clarity grading of a diamond.

Certification -  A diamond certificate is the evaluation by a third-party, not by either the diamond buyer or seller. Unfortunately, an 3rd party certification is necessary. Diamond certificates are issued to confirm a stone's technical characteristics, value and identity, but it is important to know and understand the differences between the grading bodies as they operate on difference standards. Ensuring your diamond is certified by one of the leading independent and recognised certification laboratories is essential for an unbiased assessment of the stone's quality.

Cost - Across the various specifications for diamonds you will see that there are ways in which you can get the best value for your budget. There should be a perfect balance of various factor that affect the pricing of a diamond. These factors will ensure you get the ideal diamond in your budget. While the choice of diamonds need'nt be perplexing. – and remember, ultimately, you're buying something that is a great vessel of value, and can be passed along for many generations.

Contour(shape) -Diamonds come in all shapes and sizes and there is sure to be one to suit every taste and style. It is often said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but perhaps less often pointed out that there is one to suit each and every kind of "girl". Every diamond has its own story and it is up to you which one you will choose to tell yours.
